The otter's story follows the Taw and the Torridge, the two rivers that run through the part of North Devon I now work in. Why is one room in a cob cottage always cold?
It's usually a balancing problem, an undersized radiator or a valve that has seized, not a boiler fault. The old centre of Georgeham is cob and thatch, with newer houses around the edges. Cob walls are thick and hold the cold, rooms are irregular, and radiators were often added one at a time by different people over the years.
All three are cheaper to put right than a boiler, and I find the real cause before anything is spent. That's central heating work, and it's priced and agreed before I carry on.
Is the property on mains gas or a tank?
Parts of the parish are off the mains gas network. I work on mains gas only, so if there's a tank in the garden, the boiler runs on oil or LPG and needs a different engineer. Oil needs an OFTEC-registered engineer. I don't work on LPG boilers. For LPG, you need a Gas Safe engineer whose registration covers LPG work.
