Smart Thermostat Installation in North Devon

A smart thermostat is one of the few things you can do to a house that pays for itself without much argument. You control the heating from your phone, set it around how you actually live rather than how you lived in 2015, and stop paying to warm an empty house.

I fit Nest, Hive, Tado and the rest across Barnstaple and North Devon. I do the work myself and I set the thing up properly before I go, because a smart stat that's wired in but badly configured is just an expensive dial.

Google Nest Learning Thermostat. The best-known and, for most homes, still the best all-round choice. It learns your schedule over the first week and builds a programme automatically. Works with Google Home and Alexa, and needs a Nest Pro installation by an authorised installer, which I am. Best for households that want the thermostat to manage itself.

Hive Active Heating. Hub-based, straightforward, with a clear app. Best for households that want simple scheduling and manual control rather than a learning thermostat.

Tado. Geofencing is the standout: it starts heating when you're on your way home and turns down when everyone leaves, with room-by-room control if you add smart TRVs. Best for variable schedules.

Almost certainly yes. The main restriction is that some smart thermostats require a system-powered thermostat cable (a "live wire" connection), which older boiler systems may not have. In these cases, a wireless-only smart thermostat like Hive or Tado is the right choice. They don't need a wired connection.

Manufacturers quote savings of 15–30% on heating bills. The real figure depends entirely on how your heating was controlled before: significant if you are running a fixed programmer schedule set years ago and never changed, modest if you are already careful.

What smart thermostats reliably do is remove the waste from hours when nobody is home, and make it much easier to manage the heating sensibly from wherever you are.
