Six Miles From Me, on the Edge of Exmoor

North Molton is about 6 miles from South Molton and twelve minutes up the road, which makes it the closest village I cover. It sits on the southern edge of Exmoor, an old mining village with a tall church tower, stone cottages around the centre and a large upland parish spreading north towards the moor.

Being this close matters more here than it would in a town. Villages on the edge of the moor are usually the last place an engineer wants to drive to, and the honest reason people struggle to get one out is distance. For me this is the short trip, not the long one.

Check the fuel first. A good number of properties out towards the moor are off the mains gas network and run on oil or LPG. I work on mains gas only. If there is a tank in the garden you need an OFTEC registered engineer for oil, or a Gas Safe engineer whose registration covers LPG.

Exmoor winters are the other local factor. Frozen condensate pipes are the most common cold-snap call I get from properties at this elevation, and the fix is usually insulation and a better routing rather than a new part. It is one of the things I check on every service up here.
