Old guest houses, new flats and a lot of steep streets
Ilfracombe grew as a Victorian seaside resort, and much of the town was built as hotels and guest houses on the hillside above the harbour. Plenty of those have since been split into flats, which is why a single building here can have three or four boilers, or one old system that was never designed for the way the house is now divided.
