Service Area

Heating Engineer Covering Barnstaple & All of North Devon

I serve Barnstaple and communities across North Devon. Travel is measured from South Molton: within 25 miles is included, and beyond that radius a £30 including-VAT charge is confirmed before booking.

Towns and Areas I Cover

Barnstaple, where most of my work is. North Devon's largest town, including Sticklepath, Newport, Pilton and the surrounding villages.

Bideford, the second-largest town, 30–45 minutes from Barnstaple depending on your route, including Westward Ho!, Northam and Appledore.

Ilfracombe, 15–20 minutes from Barnstaple. Victorian terraces mean ageing systems are common, so annual servicing is especially worthwhile here.

Braunton, the largest village in England, five to twenty minutes from Barnstaple.

Great Torrington, a market town about 20 minutes away, plus the surrounding rural villages.

Fremington, effectively a large suburb of Barnstaple, 10–15 minutes away.

South Molton, a market town 25–35 minutes east of Barnstaple, covering a wide rural catchment.

Woolacombe, 25–30 minutes away, with a high concentration of holiday lets and second homes. It is the one town on this list beyond the 25 mile radius from South Molton, at about 27 miles by road, so a £30 including-VAT travel charge applies and is confirmed before the booking.

Lynton and Lynmouth, 35–40 minutes away. Remote and underserved: many local engineers don't make the trip. I do.

Combe Martin, 20–25 minutes away, just inland from Ilfracombe.

Northam, above Bideford between the estuary and the sea, with a large stock of post-war bungalows and hot water cylinders.

Westward Ho!, a Victorian seaside resort with a high proportion of holiday lets. Salt air is hard on flue terminals and external pipework.

Appledore, the old shipbuilding village at the mouth of the Torridge. Narrow lanes, listed cottages, tight parking.

Instow, an estuary village between Barnstaple and Bideford, with larger houses and more unvented cylinders than most.

Croyde, a surf village running on the season, mostly holiday lets and second homes. Mains gas only, so worth checking the fuel first.

Georgeham, a mile inland from Croyde, thatch and cob at the core, and where Henry Williamson wrote Tarka the Otter.

Landkey, two miles east of Barnstaple on the A361 corridor, and one of the quickest places on my list to reach.

Swimbridge, about 7 miles from South Molton. Much of the wider parish is off the mains gas network.

Chulmleigh, a hilltop wool town 8 miles from South Molton, largely off the gas grid, so mains gas properties only.

North Molton, six miles from South Molton on the edge of Exmoor, and the shortest trip I make.

Villages and Smaller Communities

Within the areas above, I also cover Saunton, Hartland, Bucks Cross, Abbots Bickington, Bishop's Tawton, Chittlehampton, Winkleigh, Beaford, High Bickington, Berrynarbor, Barbrook, Yelland, Bickington, and many others.

Not on this list? Call me. I'll confirm whether I cover your address and disclose any travel charge before booking.

Older Properties and Awkward Systems

Old and awkward is normal work here, not a reason to be turned away. Back boilers, open-vented systems, system and regular boilers, microbore pipework, boilers sited where somebody put them forty years ago and nobody has fancied since. The one honest catch is parts: if a component isn't made any more, I'll tell you that before you spend anything.

I'm Gas Safe registered (no. 515374) and fully insured. For landlords with properties across several areas, common in the holiday let market around Woolacombe, Croyde and Ilfracombe, I coordinate visits and renewal reminders. The standard published prices apply to each property and its appliances.
