South Molton is where I'm based, and I repair mains-gas boilers across the town and the parishes around it in EX36. I'm George Lane of Tarka Boilers, Gas Safe registered (No. 515374), with more than 25 years of boiler work behind me, first in Kent and now in North Devon, where my family and I have made our home.

How booking works
You book
Book online and your time is confirmed straight away. I work Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, and I'm not an emergency service. If it isn't a job for me, I'll say so and point you to someone who can help, rather than going quiet on you.
You'll know when I'm coming
You choose a start time when you book, not a morning or an afternoon. It is an estimate, because the job before yours can finish early or run on. When I set off to you, you get a text with a link that shows where I am, so you can see when I'll be at the door.
The mix of properties round South Molton
The town has older houses round the centre, where boilers often sit on pipework that has seen several boilers come and go, and newer estates on the edges with combis. Older systems bring sludge and circulation faults. Combis bring diverter valves, fans, sensors and pressure problems.
Out in the parishes, many farms and cottages are off the gas network. I only work on mains-gas boilers. I don't work on LPG boilers. For LPG, you need a Gas Safe engineer whose registration covers LPG work. For an oil boiler, look for an OFTEC-registered engineer.
What a repair costs, start to finish
The labour. £220 including VAT to find the fault and get the boiler working again, however long it takes. If I fix it without a part, that's the whole bill.
If it needs a part. A fixed price for the part, which you agree before it's fitted. It doesn't grow after. If you'd rather not go ahead, you only pay £105 for the visit.
Guarantee. Parts I fit are guaranteed for 12 months, including the labour to put them right, whatever the age of your boiler. The guarantee covers the parts I fit and my work, not the rest of the boiler or system. If sludge caused the fault, I'll still repair it, but that repair isn't guaranteed unless the system has been flushed and a magnetic filter fitted. I'll tell you that before I start, not after.
Faults worth ringing about early
- Pressure creeping down week by week. It's a small leak or a flat expansion vessel now, and a lockout later.
- A boiler that takes several tries to light. The electrode or the gas valve is on its way out.
- Kettling or banging. Scale or sludge on the heat exchanger, which gets more expensive the longer it's left.
- Water under the boiler. A pressure relief valve or a seal letting by.
