What's the housing like, and does it change the job?
Bideford is an old port town, and the housing shows it. Terraces climb the streets above the quay, there are larger Victorian houses on the higher ground, and newer estates on the edges of town. Older terraces often have a system boiler and a hot water cylinder in a cupboard upstairs, or a combi squeezed into a kitchen that was never planned for one.
None of that changes the price. It does change what I look at first. On an older system I check the pump, the valves and the state of the water, because a lot of faults blamed on the boiler start somewhere else in the pipework. Every visit starts with finding out what's actually wrong, not with a sales pitch for a new boiler. I show you what I've found and what it means, and you get a fixed price for any parts before anything's fitted. I don't sell or fit boilers, so I've no reason to tell you to replace something that can be fixed.
How do I book a service or repair in Bideford?
Book online, or ring 01271 444410. You choose a start time when you book, not a morning or an afternoon. It is an estimate, because the job before yours can finish early or run on. When I set off to you, you get a text with a link that shows where I am, so you can see when I'll be at the door.
If you rent out property in the town, a landlord gas safety check and a boiler service can go on the same visit. A standard gas boiler service and a landlord gas safety check for one appliance on the same visit is £145, instead of £210 booked separately. With the full gas boiler service it is £225, instead of £290. Both prices include VAT. It costs less because it's one visit instead of two, and it can't be combined with any other reduction.

Book online and your time is confirmed straight away. I work Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, and I'm not an emergency service. If it isn't a job for me, I'll say so and point you to someone who can help, rather than going quiet on you.

Is East-the-Water covered as well as the town centre?
Yes. It's the same trip and the same prices on both sides of the Long Bridge.
My boiler is old. Will you tell me to replace it?
Not unless it's honestly the right answer. Boiler sales aren't part of my work, so a repair is always the first thing I look at. If a repair doesn't make sense for the age of the boiler, I'll show you why and let you decide.
Can you do a landlord gas safety check on a flat above a shop?
Yes. What matters is how many gas appliances there are, not the type of building. The price is per appliance, and it's the same across Bideford as anywhere else I work.
Do you work on oil or LPG in the villages outside Bideford?
No, mains gas only. Oil needs an OFTEC-registered engineer. I don't work on LPG boilers. For LPG, you need a Gas Safe engineer whose registration covers LPG work.
