South Molton is my base
Tarka Boilers is based here in South Molton, and I'm the engineer: George Lane, on the Gas Safe Register as 515374. In the town and the parishes around it I service and repair mains-gas boilers, fix central heating faults, service unvented cylinders and carry out landlord gas safety checks.
Because this is my base, travel is included for every address in the town. It's included across North Devon too, from Lynton down to Chulmleigh and across to Bideford.
I spent more than 25 years on boilers and heating in Kent, most of them with my own business, before my family and I moved here. Every job is done by me, with full insurance behind it.

Town houses on gas, farmhouses often not
South Molton is a market town, and the housing is what you'd expect from one: terraces and town houses around the square, Georgian and Victorian property in the older streets, and newer estates on the edges of the town. In the town itself, most homes are on mains gas, and everything I offer applies.
The parishes around it are a different picture. Farmhouses and cottages out towards Exmoor and down the Mole valley are often off the gas network, running on oil or LPG. I work on mains-gas boilers only, so if there's a tank in your garden, the boiler isn't one for me. Oil boiler work needs an OFTEC-registered engineer. I don't work on LPG boilers. For LPG, you need a Gas Safe engineer whose registration covers LPG work.
Not sure which you have? If you pay a gas supplier for gas through a meter, and nobody delivers fuel to a tank, you're on mains gas.
You book
Book online and your time is confirmed straight away. I work Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, and I'm not an emergency service. If it isn't a job for me, I'll say so and point you to someone who can help, rather than going quiet on you.

You choose a start time when you book, not a morning or an afternoon. It is an estimate, because the job before yours can finish early or run on. When I set off to you, you get a text with a link that shows where I am, so you can see when I'll be at the door.

Is there a travel charge in South Molton?
No. South Molton is where I'm based, so travel is included for every address in the town.
How do I know if my house is on mains gas?
You'll have a gas meter and a bill from a gas supplier, and no tank outside. If you order oil or gas deliveries, you're off the network and I can't work on that boiler.
Can you service a boiler in a farmhouse outside the town?
Yes, if it runs on mains gas. Some farms on the edge of town are connected, many further out aren't. Tell me the postcode and the fuel when you book.
How much is a boiler service?
A standard gas boiler service is £105 including VAT. A Full gas boiler service is £185 including VAT. It adds a new burner gasket, a full clean of the heat exchanger and burner, and inspection and cleaning of the ignition electrodes and the flame sensor.

Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. You choose the time when you book. The job before yours can finish early or run on, so when I set off you get a text with a link that shows when I'll be with you.
