A Hilltop Wool Town, Mostly Off the Gas Grid

Chulmleigh is a medieval wool town on a hill above the Taw valley, with a tight grid of streets around Fore Street and the church, and a lot of listed and thatched property in the centre. It is about 8 miles from South Molton, twenty minutes, so it is genuinely local to me rather than an outlying job.

Read this part before you call. Much of Chulmleigh and the surrounding parish is off the mains gas network. Oil and LPG are common here, and I work on mains gas only: oil needs an OFTEC registered engineer and LPG needs a Gas Safe engineer whose registration covers that work. If there is a tank in the garden or a filler point on an outside wall, I am not the right person for the appliance, and you will be told that before a visit is booked rather than after a wasted trip.

If you are on mains gas, everything I do is available here and the response time is better than most places, because you are close to where I am based. The older property in the centre brings the usual solid-wall considerations: restricted flue routes, systems that have been extended piecemeal, and radiators that were sized for a different way of living.
