Tarka Boilers is me, George Lane: a Gas Safe registered heating engineer, registration 515374, based in North Devon. Travel to Barnstaple is included, and here I repair and service mains-gas boilers, sort out central heating faults, service unvented cylinders and carry out landlord gas safety checks.
I've worked on boilers for more than 25 years, most of them running my own heating business in Kent. My family and I have now moved to North Devon. I'm fully insured, and I do every job myself, from the first visit to the finished work.
What I don't do: oil boilers, LPG boilers, or fitting new boilers. I don't sell or fit boilers, so I've no reason to push a new one.

Letting a flat or house in Barnstaple?
A lot of Barnstaple's homes are rented, from flats in the town centre to family houses in Pilton and Sticklepath. Each one needs a landlord gas safety check every 12 months, and the landlord gas safety certificate (often called a CP12) has to be in your tenant's hands.
A landlord gas safety check for one appliance, with the certificate, is £105 including VAT. Each extra appliance is £30, or £80 for each extra gas fire. The certificate comes to you by email, and I send a reminder when the next check is due, so the date doesn't slip past while you're busy with something else.
A standard gas boiler service and a landlord gas safety check for one appliance on the same visit is £145, instead of £210 booked separately. With the full gas boiler service it is £225, instead of £290. Both prices include VAT. It costs less because it's one visit instead of two, and it can't be combined with any other reduction.

Do you cover both EX31 and EX32?
Yes. EX31 takes in the town centre, Pilton, Sticklepath and Roundswell, and EX32 covers Newport, Whiddon Valley and the villages to the east, such as Landkey and Swimbridge. Travel to both is included.

Do you work on all boiler brands?
On mains gas, yes: Worcester Bosch, Vaillant, Baxi, Ideal, Glow-worm, Potterton, Viessmann and the rest. If a part for an older model is no longer made, I'll tell you before you spend anything.
Can you come out in the evening or at the weekend?
No. I work Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, and I'm not an emergency service. If you smell gas, leave the property and call the National Gas Emergency number, 0800 111 999, before anything else. Once the supply has been made safe, I can come and deal with the appliance.
