Fremington, Bickington and the estuary road
Travel to Fremington is included in every price. I'm George Lane of Tarka Boilers, on the Gas Safe Register as 515374, and I take on boiler repairs, annual services, cold-radiator problems and landlord gas safety checks here.
Fremington runs along the south side of the Taw estuary, west of Barnstaple, with Bickington between the two and Yelland further along towards Instow. It shares the EX31 postcode with Barnstaple, and most of the housing is estate housing from the last sixty years or so, with older cottages nearer the quay and the old village centre.

Why do the radiators go cold at the bottom?
Sludge has settled in them, and it's rarely the boiler's fault. It's one of the most common heating faults on estate houses of this age. Over the years, the water in a sealed heating system picks up sludge from corroding steel radiators. The sludge sinks to the bottom of each radiator, the bottom stays cold, and the boiler works harder to heat less.
I check the state of the system water on every service. A water quality check is part of the service: the inhibitor level, the pH and any signs of corrosion in the system water. Topping up or replacing the inhibitor isn't included, so if the system needs it, I show you what I found and give you a price before doing anything. If a system needs cleaning, a magnetic filter or new valves, that's central heating work: I'll show you what I've found and give you a fixed price before any of it goes ahead.
You book
Book online and your time is confirmed straight away. I work Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, and I'm not an emergency service. If it isn't a job for me, I'll say so and point you to someone who can help, rather than going quiet on you.
You'll know when I'm coming
You choose a start time when you book, not a morning or an afternoon. It is an estimate, because the job before yours can finish early or run on. When I set off to you, you get a text with a link that shows where I am, so you can see when I'll be at the door.

Frequently asked questions
My boiler is the one the house was built with. Service it or replace it?
A service will tell you a lot. I check the heat exchanger, the seals and the safety devices, and give you a straight read on how it's doing. New boilers aren't something I sell, so the advice is about your boiler and nothing else.
Do you charge a call-out fee in Fremington?
Not on top of the repair price. Coming out, travel and finding the fault are all part of the £220 fixed repair price, which includes VAT. If you decide not to go ahead once you know the parts price, or it can't sensibly be repaired, you only pay £105 for the visit.
Do you cover Yelland and Chivenor?
Yes, both, on mains gas. Travel is included, so the prices are the same as in Fremington.
Can you add a magnetic filter while you're here?
Yes. It's fitted on the heating return near the boiler and catches the sludge before it reaches the boiler. It's priced and agreed before I fit it.
