George Lane, Gas Safe No. 515374. Fully insured, 25+ years on boilers. I do every job myself, from the first visit to the finished work.
If you smell gas, leave the property and call the National Gas Emergency number, 0800 111 999, before anything else. Once the supply has been made safe, I can come and deal with the appliance.

Tarka Boilers is new to North Devon, so it has no reviews of its own yet. Every review here is from a customer of Thames Boilers, the heating business I ran in Kent before I moved here.

A sudden leaking pipe meant that the job took much longer than expected but this was no problem at all for him. George done an excellent job and I will definitely be using his services again.

How booking works
You book
Book online and your time is confirmed straight away. I work Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, and I'm not an emergency service. If it isn't a job for me, I'll say so and point you to someone who can help, rather than going quiet on you.
You'll know when I'm coming
You choose a start time when you book, not a morning or an afternoon. It is an estimate, because the job before yours can finish early or run on. When I set off to you, you get a text with a link that shows where I am, so you can see when I'll be at the door.
Properties in Ilfracombe by the sea
Houses near the harbour and along the seafront get salt spray on flue terminals and outside pipework. Corrosion there won't always stop a boiler, but it can let flue gases out or let the condensate pipe fail. I look at all of it I can reach.
Guest houses and holiday lets that run hard in summer and sit quiet in winter are best serviced before the season.
Servicing a boiler in a converted flat
Many Ilfracombe flats sit in converted Victorian houses, with the boiler in a kitchen cupboard, a hallway or a loft. On the service I check the things that matter most in those spaces:
- that the boiler has the ventilation it needs, if it's the type that needs any
- that the flue is sealed and supported along its whole length where I can see it
- that the flue terminal outside is clear and not too close to a window or another flat's opening
- that the condensate pipe drains properly and can't freeze
Standard or full?
Standard in most years, and full when the burner and heat exchanger are due their deeper clean. It covers the normal safety and combustion checks, plus routine checks and cleaning of the parts I can reach. It does not include taking the burner out, a new burner gasket or the Full gas boiler service clean. A Full gas boiler service is £185 including VAT. It adds a new burner gasket, a full clean of the heat exchanger and burner, and inspection and cleaning of the ignition electrodes and the flame sensor.
Most boilers need the full service every three to five years, depending on how hard they work. Viessmann boilers need it every year, because of how the burner and heat exchanger are built.
FAQs: boiler servicing in Ilfracombe
Is it cheaper to have the service and the landlord check together?
Yes, because it's one visit instead of two. A standard gas boiler service and a landlord gas safety check for one appliance on the same visit is £145, instead of £210 booked separately. With the full gas boiler service it is £225, instead of £290. Both prices include VAT. It costs less because it's one visit instead of two, and it can't be combined with any other reduction.
What do you check in the system water?
A water quality check is part of the service: the inhibitor level, the pH and any signs of corrosion in the system water. Topping up or replacing the inhibitor isn't included, so if the system needs it, I show you what I found and give you a price before doing anything.
Can you service a back boiler?
Yes. Back boilers always need the full service.
