How booking works
You book
Book online and your time is confirmed straight away. I work Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, and I'm not an emergency service. If it isn't a job for me, I'll say so and point you to someone who can help, rather than going quiet on you.
You'll know when I'm coming
You choose a start time when you book, not a morning or an afternoon. It is an estimate, because the job before yours can finish early or run on. When I set off to you, you get a text with a link that shows where I am, so you can see when I'll be at the door.
Properties in Lynton that aren't on mains gas
Some properties round Lynton run their heating from oil or LPG. I only work on systems heated by a mains-gas boiler. I don't work on LPG boilers. For LPG, you need a Gas Safe engineer whose registration covers LPG work.
Stone walls, steep sites and awkward pipe runs
Houses in Lynton and Lynmouth are often stone-built on steep ground, with rooms on several levels and extensions added over the years. Pipework in houses like that tends to take long, unlikely routes. When a radiator on one level won't warm, the cause can be a long way from the radiator.
I trace the system before I touch it, so I fix the fault and not a symptom of it.
Guest houses and heating that runs flat out
A guest house heats a lot of rooms at once, and its heating works harder in the season than a family home's. That shows up as worn pumps, zone valves that fail and radiators that fill with sludge. If your system has been topped up with fresh water many times over the years, it's likely to have more corrosion inside. BS 7593 requires all central heating systems to be treated with a corrosion inhibitor.
FAQs: central heating repairs in Lynton
Can you fix a radiator that's cold in one room only?
Yes. It's usually air, a stuck valve pin or sludge in that radiator, and I'll find out which when I come out.
Do you work on older open-vented systems?
Yes. Old and awkward is normal work here, not a reason to be turned away. Back boilers, open-vented systems, system and regular boilers, microbore pipework, boilers sited where somebody put them forty years ago and nobody has fancied since. The one honest catch is parts: if a component isn't made any more, I'll tell you that before you spend anything.
If a part has to be ordered, do I pay for the extra trip?
No. The £220 labour price covers coming back to fit the part when it arrives.
