How booking works
You book
Book online and your time is confirmed straight away. I work Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, and I'm not an emergency service. If it isn't a job for me, I'll say so and point you to someone who can help, rather than going quiet on you.
You'll know when I'm coming
You choose a start time when you book, not a morning or an afternoon. It is an estimate, because the job before yours can finish early or run on. When I set off to you, you get a text with a link that shows where I am, so you can see when I'll be at the door.
Hillside properties in Lynton and Lynmouth
Houses in both villages are built into steep hillsides, often in stone, and many have boilers tucked into small kitchens, cellars or outbuildings. Hotels, guest houses and holiday lets are a large part of the housing, and many of their boilers work hard in summer and little in winter.
Faults I expect here are the ones that come with that pattern: pumps and diverter valves that stick after standing idle, condensate pipes that freeze on exposed walls, and flue terminals worn by the weather off the sea.
Mains gas or not?
Parts of Lynton and Lynmouth are on mains gas. Many cottages and farms round about on Exmoor aren't, and use oil or LPG. My boiler work is mains gas only. I don't work on LPG boilers. For LPG, you need a Gas Safe engineer whose registration covers LPG work. For oil, look for an OFTEC-registered engineer. If you have a gas meter, you're on mains gas.
Bringing the right parts
Lynton is a longer trip than it looks on the map, so I try to arrive with what the job is likely to need. That's why I ask for the make, the model and the fault code when you book, and a photo of the boiler's data plate if you can. If the repair needs a part I haven't brought, you get a fixed price for the part first, and I come back to fit it once it's in. The return trip is part of the £220.
Repairing rather than replacing
I don't sell or fit boilers, so I've no reason to push a new one. If a repair is sensible, I'll do it. If the boiler is old, the fault is expensive and parts are scarce, I'll tell you that plainly so you can decide.
